Church of Our Saviour Annual Pledge Campaign for 2012FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS. . . AND ANSWERS

Church of Our Saviour

Why pledge? Pledging is both a symbolic blessing and a practical necessity. While gifts of all kinds are important and accepted gratefully, a pledge is a key way to affirm your spiritual relationship with God, Church of Our Saviour and its mission and ministries. A pledge is also an essential building block. Unlike other gifts which arrive at unknown times in unknown amounts, the total created from all of our pledges lets the Vestry much more reliably anticipate the financial support for 2012 and create a balanced budget for all of COS’ ministries. Annual pledge revenue accounts for at least 80% of budgeted revenue.
Don’t we get money from the Diocese? Although the Diocese might assist a brand new parish or help one in dire financial straits, the Diocese does not typically provide any sort of annual stipend to a parish. In fact, it works the other way around - - each parish usually makes a contribution to the Diocese to support diocesan outreach, educational and other programs.
How can I pledge? + Complete a pledge form and drop it in the offering plate during a service + Complete a pledge form and mail it to: Church of Our Saviour, 530 W. Fullerton Pkwy., Chicago, IL 60614 + Send by e-mail to COS.Stewardship@gmail.com (attach a completed pledge form or just include your pledge amount and contact information in the body of the e-mail)
Pledge forms have been mailed to everyone but also are available from the church office or can be found in parish hall and on the narthex table. Or click here for a pdf version.
When are pledges due? We ask that you make your pledge between Sunday, November 13 and Sunday, December 4.
Is my 2012 pledge kept confidential? The amount of your pledge is treated confidentially and seen only by the Rector, the Wardens, the Treasurer, the Stewardship Chair, the church administrator and the church bookkeeper. The fact of your pledge, however, is part of the open records of the church.
What if my financial circumstances change? Pledging is a serious commitment and we hope that everyone fulfills or even exceeds their pledge. However, a pledge can be flexible as needed. Should your financial circumstances change, you can raise or lower your level of giving by calling the church office at 773.549.3832 or by speaking with the Rev. Brian Hastings.
Do I have to pay my pledge all at once? No. It is your choice as to how and when to fulfill your pledge. Some people pay it all at once. Others pay an amount each month or week. Still others pay a good portion of their pledge early in the year and then pay the balance in increments throughout the year.
May I have pledge envelopes? To use our resources wisely, we will gladly order envelopes but only for those who request them. Please mark the appropriate space on your pledge form.
May I pay my pledge by credit card? Yes, payments by Visa, Mastercard or Discover can be accepted for your 2012 pledge fulfillment. You can arrange for this with the church office manager or the church bookkeeper. You may also pay through the PayPal donation link at the bottom of the home page of the COS website (www.coschurch.org). There is a transaction fee incurred by the church for each credit card or PayPal payment.
May I pay my pledge via auto-pay from my checking account? Yes, we would be happy to work with you to establish online bill paying from your checking account to the church.
May I pay my pledge with gifts of securities or stock? Yes, gifts of securities can be arranged by direct transfer. Please contact the church office at 773.549.3832 or oursaviour.chicago@gmail.com for the details.
Will the fundraising for a capital campaign start soon? The Vestry and a campaign committee are hard at work with the early discernment, design and feasibility activities with the help of the campaign and project management consultants. This work will continue into the first quarter of 2012 and opportunities for volunteer parishioner involvement will be identified. Conversations about financial support for the campaign will occur during 2012.
If you have other questions, please contact us and we'll do our best to answer them.
